Thousands of American flags will surround Gettysburg National Military Park’s Eternal Light Peace Memorial this November as part of A Field of Remembrance, a moving commemorative display honoring the lives forever changed by the Battle of Gettysburg.
Presented by the Gettysburg Foundation, the annual installation will be on display from Thursday, November 12, through Monday, November 23, 2026. The display is free and open to the public, offering visitors an opportunity to pause, reflect, and remember the human cost of the Civil War.
Each sponsored flag represents an act of remembrance for those who were killed, wounded, captured, or reported missing during the Battle of Gettysburg. More than 51,000 Americans were affected by the battle, making this display a powerful tribute to their sacrifices and the lasting impact of the conflict.
Beyond honoring those who experienced the battle, A Field of Remembrance supports the Gettysburg Foundation’s preservation and educational work in partnership with the National Park Service. Visitors are invited to walk among the flags, reflect on the stories they represent, and connect with this pivotal chapter in American history.
Installation of the display is scheduled for November 12, with November 13 serving as the rain date. Flag sponsorships will be accepted through Veterans Day, November 11.
