The Borough of Hanover Department of Parks and Recreation is inviting adults ages 55 and older to enjoy a fall outing filled with local history, good food, and fellowship.

The upcoming Gettysburg Day Out – A Guided Battlefield Tour and Tavern Lunch is scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

Participants will explore the historic Gettysburg battlefield with a licensed tour guide before gathering for lunch at Sweney’s Tavern at the historic Farnsworth House. Dating back to 1833, the Farnsworth House served as a Civil War hospital and offers a rustic setting steeped in local history.

The cost is $50 per person and includes transportation, the guided battlefield tour, and lunch. Participants can choose an appetizer, entrée, and drink. The group will depart from the Hanover Market House, located at 210 E. Chestnut Street in Hanover, at 10:15 a.m. and is expected to return around 3:30 p.m.

To learn more or register, email ParksAndRecDept@HanoverBoroughPA.gov or call 717-637-3877, extension 1029.

The outing is part of the borough’s Seniors in Action program, which provides adults ages 55 and older with opportunities to connect through educational lunch-and-learns, day trips, and fellowship gatherings.
