Guthrie Memorial Library– Hanover’s Public Library has received three recent awards recognizing its commitment to adult literacy, health and wellness education, and inclusive employment opportunities in the community.

Adult Services Manager Annie-Laure Woappi accepted two awards from PA Forward® in recognition of the library’s weekly Senior Health and Wellness Workshops: the 2026 Best Health Literacy Program Award and the Best Adult Literacy Program Award.

Woappi has worked at the library for 25 years and began organizing the Senior Health and Wellness Workshops in 2018 to address the need for a dedicated space where local seniors could learn, connect, and build relationships.

The award-winning workshops take place every Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. in the library’s Bare Center. Sessions often feature guest speakers who share information on health and wellness topics, along with games and activities that encourage learning and social connection. Each workshop concludes with a free hot lunch and social hour for eligible participants.

PA Forward is a statewide literacy initiative of the Pennsylvania Library Association that promotes five essential literacies: basic, information, civic and social, health, and financial. As a PA Forward Gold Star Library, Guthrie Memorial Library incorporates these areas into its free programs and services, helping community members of all ages build knowledge and access valuable resources.

The library has also been named The Arc of York & Adams Counties’ 2026 Employer of the Year for its support of the organization’s Penn Employment Program.

The award recognizes community employers that go above and beyond to provide meaningful opportunities, workplace support, and inclusive environments for individuals participating in employment programs. Through its partnership with Penn Employment, Guthrie Memorial Library has helped participants develop workplace skills, contribute to the community, and gain valuable experience.

The Arc of York & Adams Counties highlighted the library’s commitment to creating opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, recognizing the important role inclusive workplaces play in helping people build skills, achieve personal goals, and succeed in their communities.

The Employer of the Year Award will be presented during The Arc of York & Adams Counties’ Annual Meeting & Donor Recognition Night in November.

“We are beyond proud of our staff members and the positive impact they have made in addressing the needs of our community through innovative programs and partnerships,” said Branch Librarian Jennifer Croney. “These recent awards affirm the role of Guthrie Memorial Library as a welcoming and inclusive environment representing education, recreation, and progress in Hanover, Pennsylvania.”

The recognitions celebrate Guthrie Memorial Library’s ongoing efforts to expand educational opportunities, promote community well-being, and create a welcoming environment where everyone has the opportunity to learn, participate, and thrive.
