Does your child love playing the violin, viola, cello, or bass? The York Junior Symphony Orchestra is welcoming aspiring young musicians to audition for its Prep String Orchestra, an exciting program designed specifically for students entering 3rd and 4th grade.
The Prep String Orchestra provides young musicians with the opportunity to build their musical skills, gain valuable ensemble experience, and perform alongside other passionate string players in a supportive and encouraging environment. Students learn teamwork, confidence, and musicianship while developing a lifelong appreciation for music.
Auditions for the upcoming season are submitted by video and are open to string students entering grades 3 and 4. Musicians should prepare:
- D Major, G Major, and C Major scales
- A polished solo performance lasting 1–3 minutes
Students must be in grades 3 through 6 or age 8 by September 30th. It is recommended that students have at least one year of playing before auditioning for YJSO Prep. Students in grades 5 or 6 will be placed either in YJSO or YJSO Prep based on their experience and playing level. It is further required that students study privately. All musicians must belong and be in good standing with their school orchestra/band. If no school orchestra/band exists, complete this letter of recommendation.
Tuition for YJSO Prep is $150 for the year, payable via Zelle or personal check, made payable to York Junior Symphony Orchestra. Membership tuition for YJSO Prep includes instruction at 18 rehearsals and two concerts, as well as a YJSO Prep T-shirt. Tuition instructions will be sent to families after the conclusion of auditions with payment due by the first rehearsal of the season. Founded in 1967, the York Junior Symphony Orchestra has inspired generations of young musicians by providing exceptional orchestral training and performance opportunities for students throughout York County and surrounding communities.
